The provided diagrams illustrate the proportion of water consumption for various uses across six global regions.
In general, it is apparent that the most significant usage of water is for agriculture, while the least is for industrial purposes. There are, however, noticeable regional variations in these trends.
In the first detailed observation, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia allocate the vast majority of their water for agricultural purposes, at 84% and 91% respectively. Central Asia, on the other hand, uses a smaller percentage of 75% for the same purpose. In these regions, the consumption of water for domestic and industrial use is relatively minimal, with industrial use being particularly low in Sub-Saharan Africa at only 2%.
Contrastingly, in North America and Europe, industrial use accounts for a more significant proportion of water consumption, at 48% and 53% respectively. These regions also exhibit a more balanced distribution of water usage across the three categories, with domestic use accounting for roughly a quarter of total water consumption. In contrast, agriculture commands a smaller share of water use, particularly in Europe where it accounts for only 32%.
