01 What is IELTS?
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is the world's most widely recognised English proficiency test. It assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking for study, work and migration.
02 What is the pattern of the IELTS test?
Four modules: Listening (30 mins), Reading (60 mins), Writing (60 mins) and Speaking (11–14 mins). The first three are taken in one sitting; Speaking may be scheduled within a week. Each is scored on a 1–9 band scale. Try the free Band Score Calculator.
03 When is the IELTS test conducted?
Tests run throughout the year, usually 2 to 4 times a month. Check dates and centres on the official IDP IELTS portal.
04 What is the IELTS exam fee?
It varies by country. In India the fee is about INR 18,000. Always confirm the current fee on the official IDP website before booking.
05 Is self-study enough, or do I need coaching?
For most candidates, structured self-study is enough. IELTS tests how well you communicate, not what you memorise, so steady practice with real tests, examiner rubrics and detailed essay feedback is what moves the band.
06 How long is an IELTS score valid?
Test Report Forms are valid for 2 years from the test date. After that, most institutions ask for a recent result.
